Me duele mi cabeza....

Translation: My head is killing me, give me some pills!!

Well, ok, literally it just means 'my head pains me' en espanol, but you get the idea. And yes, in years past, the option of harmless looking little pills to ease the throbbing pain in my temple seemed like a great option.

Until I learned that meds like Advil, Tylenol and Aspirin are the leading cause of kidney and liver failure. And taking them for 6 months or more doubles your risk of heart disease and stroke.

There are always risks and negative side effects when something un-natural is introduced into our bodies. And since God didn't leave us hanging in the face of adversity, it's good to know there are plenty of natural cures and preventions for something as common as a headache.

Common, yes. Normal, no.

Ginger is a fabulous natural anti-inflammatory. You can find ginger tea in the store, or you can make your own by boiling a small piece of ginger root in a pot of water for about 30 min. Discard the ginger and enjoy the tea.

I've not had to do this since I've not had more than 3 or 4 headaches in the past 8 months (since I've been restoring the arc of life in my neck and getting pressure off my nerves), but a friend recently tried it. She was dealing with an excruciating migraine-like headache. So off I went to kitchen to whip up a homemade remedy (I'm just a regular Suzie Homemaker-HA!). She mentioned that the tea had quite a bite (that's ginger for you!), but her headache was gone within minutes of finishing her tea!

I love to cook with ginger as well. Aside from being a tasty Asian flavor, ginger:

-Soothes nausea, motion sickness and other stomach upsets
-Relieves morning sickness
-Relaxes and soothes the intestinal tract
-Antioxidant properties
-Relieves dizziness
-Boosts the immune system
-Protects against bacteria and fungi
-Promotes cardiovascular health

What's not to love?

And to prevent those pesky headaches in the first place, drink plenty of clean water (Spring or Reverse Osmosis filtered), get plenty of sleep (every hour before midnight counts as 2 after. Note also that your liver does most of its detoxing between the hours of 11pm-1am) and lay off the sugar (slowly back away from the soda....). It would also be wise to get checked out for pressure on any of the nerves in your neck. It's not called the Arc of Life for no reason! While headaches are common, they are not normal. Contact me on how to get checked....
